A workshop on 'The behaviour and use of elastomers in vibration control'
Elastomers are commonly used as crucial parts of dynamic systems, where control of vibration, isolation and compliance are important. Filled elastomers often have complex dynamic mechanical properties. While simple descriptions of the mechanical properties can be used in selected applications, indiscriminate use can cause problems. Knowledge of the limitations of certain methods is important.
The use of inappropriate materials tests, modelling and specifications
often results in costly redesign and retuning at late stages of development.
The workshop will describe the mechanical properties of the materials.
Special attention will be paid to areas that are poorly served by the
textbooks, such as amplitude dependence of filled elastomers.
Analytical methods are presented that engineers can use to model products. Issues that allow more enlightened specifications are discussed.
The issues covered will be those encountered in typical dynamic applications such as typical automotive situations.
Attendees should leave the workshop with:
