Programme

Elastomers for Gas Turbines: Challenges and Test Methods

Ben Shaw, Rolls Royce
Typical requirements for high temperature capable oil resistant elastomers in modern gas turbines will be discussed. Current approaches to test method development will be described.

Creep

Hatem Gacem, Institut Supérieur de Mécanique de Paris, with contributions from members of the RIEC
Approaches to modelling nonlinear viscoelastic creep will be discussed – as will the importance of accurate viscoelasic model in the indentification of real chemical creep.

Kinetics of Ageing

Jane Clarke, IPTME, Loughborough University
A study of time and temperature dependence of properties of a natural compound will be described with a view to life prediction at low prediction at low temperature.

A Look at Ageing Phenomena in Practical Applications

Martyn Bennett - Chief Scientist, ARTIS
What happens to rubber compounds in a chemically active environment, such as an aerosol can, where the performance of the seals are determined by the chemical interactions taking place and the effect on the mechanical properties of the rubber. A discussion of how to measure the effects and solve some of the resulting issues.
